2017 is the International Year of Sustainable Tourism and part of the focus of the year is the Travel. Enjoy. Respect campaign run by the United Nations World Tourism Organization
The message UNWTO wants to get across is that every action counts.
We want to inspire all travellers to be the change they want to see in the world.
Taleb Rifai, Secretary-General of UNWTO.
They have just launched a travellers’ competition as part of this campaign and the prize is the stuff of dreams. The winner gets a month long around the world trip from the 20th of November to the 20th of December. It starts in Madrid and ends in Switerland, visiting six different destinations from three regions of the world, that exhibit sustainable tourism practices or initiatives. It includes visiting Colombia, Germany, Mexico and the United Arab Emirate of Ras al-Khaimah. Your only task will be to get to know the locals. Experience new cultures. Immerse yourself in the nature of a place. Respect differences. And most importantly set an example of how to travel.
To enter share your travel experiences at www.travelenjoyrespect.org and explain why you are the right person to represent the global “responsible” traveller. They want around 200 words in English explaining how you’re a responsible, respectful traveller, a couple of photographs and links to your facebook, twitter and instagram accounts.
Hurry! They haven’t left long for entries – the deadline is October 18th.
