The fifth annual March of the Mermaids takes place today Saturday 15 July 2017. It’s a parade along Brighton seafront to celebrate our seas, sea life and to raise awareness of marine conservation, as well as support related campaigns, charities and community groups.
March of the Mermaids is not just for mermaids! Mermen, sea mammals, crustaceans, pirates, sailors and all forms of sea life are invited to take part – It’s a day out for all the family.
Meet on Hove Lawns (closest to the Peace Statue) any time from midday, Surfers Against Sewage will have lots of activities on Hove Lawns for you to get involved with before the parade begins.
Pier 2 Pier Beach Clean have also organised a Mermaid Beach Clean! If you’d like to take part in the beach clean before the parade, meet the Pier 2 Pier team at the Palace Pier from 12.30
The parade will start at 3pm from Hove Lawns, ending at The Fortune of War and Tempest Inn where the March of the Mermaids after-party will take place from 4pm until late.
This year all the activities are free , but the organisers would appreciate a suggested donation of £3. All profit raised will be donated to Surfers Against Sewage.
EcoStardust will be at at the March handing out free biodegradable glitter. The company’s mission is to raise awareness of environmental issues through eco-glitter, while giving 10% of their profits to environmental charities and bodies.
