ICONSPEAK is a very simple idea. It came to three Swiss friends after their motorbike broke down while travelling through Vietnam in 2013. Desperate to find a local engineer,   Florian Nast, George Horn and Stefan Streit needed to communicate a lot of quite complicated information and understand the advice they were given in response. Life would be so much easier, they realised if they  had a set of icons they could point at

Many times we were confronted with a language barrier that was only to be overcome by drawing signs, symbols or icons on a piece of paper, map, or into the dirt. We thought it would be great to have an essential set of icons with you, permanently, so that you could just point on whatever you need – and people would understand.

And so a t shirt for travellers was born. It is decorated with 39 easily understood icons that allow the wearer to communicate to anyone, in any country.Its symbols cover hotels, banks, telephones and first aid and all you need do is point to be understood
